Officials may well manage to create a barrier-free environment for cyclists in the capital within the next two months, says Yevgeniy Khoruzhy, chairman of the board of the Minsk Cycling Society public association.
For cycling, such a property of the road network as continuity is very important: there must be a coherent network of bike paths, the movement along which is possible without unnecessary stops, dismounting, descending into underground passages, etc.
“In general, we have to admit that the development of cycling and cycling in the city of Minsk has not yet become a full-fledged part of the transport strategy of our city,” E. Horuzhy summed up. - At the level of the Minsk City Executive Committee, there is no center coordinating “cycling” issues, which often becomes the reason for inconsistent actions in this area. In addition, unfortunately, our city's development plans are still car-centric. Whereas in cities that are comfortable for life, priorities are set differently: pedestrians, then cyclists and public transport, and only last - private cars. "
