September 20th. Presentation of a study on the benefits of cycling for the city and townspeople
September 20 at 19.00 on the EventSpace site (Oktyabrskaya str., 16/3) presentation of the study “Assessment of the socio-economic effect of the bicycle in the city. What are the benefits of cycling for the city and townspeople? " The research was carried out by the Belarusian Association of Transport Experts and Surveyors, commissioned by the Minsk Cycling Society in 2018. Admission to the event is free, but by prior arrangement registration.
Why are cyclists rewarded with monetary compensation in Denmark, Holland and France? How does the EU make € 513 million annually from cyclists? How is the construction of bicycle infrastructure beneficial for motorists? How much money does it take to make Minsk a cycling paradise? Experts from Russia, Finland, Belgium and Belarus will answer these and many other questions at the presentations, as well as present fresh data from Belarusian and foreign studies on the impact of cyclists on the city's economy.

September 21. For a cyclist - a fruit or an action "To work by bike"
On the morning of September 21, people who have chosen a bicycle to travel to work or study, will give fruit. Volunteers of the Minsk Cycling Society will encourage cyclists in five locations in the capital.
A treat for choosing sustainable transport can be obtained from 7.15 to 10.30 at the following addresses:
- Near the Stele "Minsk - Hero City" (intersection of Masherov Avenue and Pobediteley Avenue);
- Near the entrance to the Botanical Garden (Independence Avenue);
- On Pushkin Avenue (to the Chigladze stop, opposite the house at 85 Pushkin Avenue).
- Near the Belarusian State Academic Musical Theater (Myasnikova str., 44).
- Opposite the Belarus department store (54 Partizansky Ave.).
September 21. Public lecture “Why do Belarusians stop cycling in autumn, but Finns keep cycling even in winter?”
A lecture will be held on September 21 at 19.00 at the Press Club (Horuzhei st., 3-601) “Why do Belarusians stop cycling in autumn, and Finns keep cycling even in winter?” The purpose of the lecture is to inspire people to extend their cycling season. The entrance to the event is free, but you must register by filling out a short questionnaire.

Why is it not cold for Finns to ride a bike in winter? Do you need special "winter" wheels? Does cycling during the cold season have health benefits? How are city services in cities in Finland dealing with snowfall? Do bike lanes need to be cleared of snow? You will hear answers to these and other questions during the event.
The public lecture will be aimed at active cyclists, city activists, journalists and everyone interested in the development of cycling in Belarus.
September 22nd. Celebration on Lenin Street and bike ride "Cyclist, give fire!"
On September 22, within the framework of the Day without a car, a big city holiday will be held on Lenin Street, which on this day will traditionally become a pedestrian one. During the day, fairs, master classes, exhibitions, film screenings and a concert await the townspeople, and in the evening Nezalezhnosti Avenue will be closed for the bike ride "Cyclist, give fire!"
Car traffic along Lenin street from Independence Avenue to st. Kirov will be closed on September 22 from 6.00 to 24.00. The Car-Free Day festivities begin at 2 pm and end late in the evening with a vibrant parade of alternative means of transportation.
The holiday program includes:
- concert and entertainment part;
- cognitive and outdoor games for children;
- demonstration of alternative means of transportation to cars;
- competition for the brightest bike;
- exhibition "Cyclist and Style";
- free bicycle maintenance ...
The culmination of the event will be bike ride along Independence Avenue from Lenin Street to the National Library, to which not only cyclists are invited, but also owners of other environmentally friendly modes of transport - rollers, unicycle, skateboards, scooters, gyro scooters, segways. The walk along the avenue will start at 21.00 and will pass at a calm pace of 15-18 km / h. To participate in the event, be sure to equip your vehicles with luminous elements.
The events of the European Mobility Week in Minsk are organized by the Minsk City Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, the Minsk City Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the UGAI GUVD of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the Education Committee of the Minsk City Executive Committee, the Minsk Cycling Society, the Center for Environmental Solutions, Akhova Ptushak Batkashchyny and other organizations.
Cycling events of the EHM-2018 are supported by the European Union within the framework of the project “Urban Cycling in Belarus”.
