The department "Belavtodor" together with the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of Belarus will be engaged in the creation of a large bicycle ring of Belarus, which can significantly increase the tourist potential of Belarus in the field of inbound tourism, writes "Diary".

Now the issue of increasing the length of the cycle path along the Minsk-Vitebsk highway (M3) is being considered. As of today, the bike path runs to the sports complex "Raubichi", it is planned to increase it to Pleshchenitsy through Logoisk.

It is also planned to connect Raubichi, Zaslavl, Grodno and Mogilev, Shklov, Orsha, Vitebsk by bicycle paths and "circle" the Minsk ring road.

It is worth noting that within the framework of the EU program, a cycle path from Druskininkai to Grodno is being built. It turns out that in a good scenario, a bicycle ring will be created in Belarus, which will raise the country's tourism potential to new heights, especially in the field of inbound tourism.

- We are not against the construction of bicycle paths, we are only for it, but all the questions rest on financing, - said the deputy head of the road network maintenance department of the Belavtodor department Evgeny Rokalo.

- We will calculate how much money the country will bring from the stay of one cyclist in Belarus, taking into account the fact that he will attend the levels of roadside service, and also calculate how much the budget will cost to build bicycle roads, - said the head of the Department of Physical Culture of the Ministry of Sports of Belarus Pavel Nepryakhin... - An order was given by the head of state to equip bike paths. We must do it, because now all of Europe is switching to bicycles. We are losing the huge tourist potential of crossing our territory and the attendance of our country due to the fact that we do not have a link in such a simple and effective way of traveling as a bicycle. The M3 track is of tremendous importance! After all, if we connect Vitebsk, Raubichi, Zaslavl in the future in 2 years and try to leave along the Grodno highway to Grodno, imagine what kind of a highway it will be!

It should be reminded that 68 hotels, 73 guarded parking lots, 310 trade enterprises, 465 public catering facilities and 103 technical service points function on the roads of Belarus.

The volume of retail turnover of roadside service facilities in 2011 in Belarus is more than $ 500 million.

Paid services worth more than $ 2 million were rendered at roadside service facilities in 2011. The annual increase in turnover and services rendered ranges from 20% to 40%. Positive trends are also observed in the number of trips of transit transport, respectively, in the growth of traffic intensity on the main highways.

Are cyclists needed on highways?

Meanwhile, "Belavtodor" intends, in principle, to raise the question of whether cyclists are needed on highways. This is especially true in connection with the planned increase in the speed limit on some sections of the M1 highway, as well as in connection with an increase in accidents involving cyclists.

- The M1 E30 highway is our main artery and transit highway through Belarus. On many sections of this road there is an increased speed limit of 120 km / h. Now the issue of increasing the speed limit on other sections of motor roads is being worked out, ”said Evgeny Rokalo, deputy head of the road network maintenance department of the Belavtodor department. - When you drive a car along the ring road or along the M1 and see cyclists ahead, you think that the road is still more for drivers, since the speeds are very high there. Therefore, accidents with cyclists are frequent. We cannot prohibit cyclists from driving on roads - this is in the competence of the State Traffic Inspectorate. Therefore, today the question remains open.
