On August 19 at 12.00 in Minsk there will be a bicycle parade of girls. Cyclists' race has a circular route in 5.5 km. Start and finish at the site opposite the Galleria Minsk shopping center (on the side of the Sports Palace), a U-turn near the Zamok shopping center. Both girls and boys can take part in the race, but the girls will lead the column of the bike ride.
The column of cyclists will move at a walking speed of about 15 km / h. Participation in the race does not require special physical training. Experienced volunteers of the Minsk Cycling Society will accompany the convoy and help in case of bike breakdowns and other unforeseen circumstances.
The bike ride is supposed to be in the international format #cyclechic ("bicycle chic"). The organizers urge cyclists and female cyclists to move away from sporty clothing and ride in an urban casual style. The idea is to demonstrate that the bike can be used not only for training, but also for everyday riding, and for this you do not need special equipment.
Why girls?
Traditionally, cycling events in Belarus are supported by more guys than girls, and there is an explanation for this:
- The number of women on bicycles is a kind of indicator of the safety and quality of the cycling infrastructure in the city, - the director of the Minsk Cycling Society is convinced Anastasia Yanchevskaya... - Of course, everyone has a different physical form, but in general, women prefer not to jump on curbs and not show the wonders of owning a bicycle on pits and jumps.
Cycling infrastructure in Minsk is improving every year, but in the city there are still only about a quarter of all cyclists, girls and women. According to Anastasia Yanchevskaya, the girls' bike parade is a good reason to encourage those who use a bicycle in the city even in imperfect conditions, as well as to see the real picture of how safe the city is for cycling.
It should also be emphasized that if such an event is held on a regular basis, then it is possible, without global and expensive research, to see the real picture, whether the city is becoming more convenient for cyclists or not.
And we will choose the velomiss again!
By the way, after the festive bike ride, a velomiss competition will be held at the site near the Sports Palace. Any girl on a bicycle can take part in the competition. Pre-registration for the event is available link.
A huge amount of entertainment, interesting surprises and competitions with valuable prizes will be prepared for all guests on this day on the site.
Friends, we urge you, regardless of gender and age, to join this event, because it is important for us, cyclists and cyclists, to regularly demonstrate that there are many of us and our opinion must be taken into account. Trust me, it's not easy to agree on the closure of the country's main avenues for cycling events yet. Let's take every opportunity and remind ourselves.
The girls' bike parade was organized by the Minsk Cycling Club and the Minsk Cycling Society as part of the EUROPE TOUR UCI Grand Prix of Minsk International Road Cycling Race. The organizing committee of the competition also includes the Belarusian Cycling Federation, the Minsk City Executive Committee, the Ministry of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus, and the National Olympic Committee.
