Orientation game at the TROLLEY-2014 festival, September 6

Very soon, on September 6, the next troll festival will take place on the banks of the Naroch River. In addition to the actual trolls and other ropes, there will be many different activities, and, among them, an orienteering game from us, the Minsk Cycling Society! If you like reading maps, walking in the woods, solving cartographic and logic puzzles - get involved!

Orientation - search on the terrain for points indicated on the map. We are not having a serious competition, but a game, so the points will not be very difficult, and the distance is within the power of any participant, but this does not mean that everything will be quite simple!

Our game will be held in the format of the so-called "rogaining" - there will be many points, so many that it will be almost impossible to "take" all of them in the allotted time. For the correct finding of each point, the participants receive a certain number of points. The cost of the points will be written on the map and in the legend, so at the start you will have to decide whether to run or drive along simple “cheap” points, or slowly take the distant and difficult “expensive” ones. We are planning a number of surprises on the track, which we will only tell you about at the start (or maybe we won't tell you at all), to make the game even more interesting.

The formal goal of the game is to score as many points as possible, but you and I know that our real goal on this day is to have fun and have a good rest!

How to get there - see the festival website: http://trolley.by/

So, the RULES OF THE GAME:
The game is a team game, there can be from one to five people in a team. The age of the participants is not limited, but the team must have at least one person over 18 years old. The team must come up with a name for themselves and get a start number. In the course of the game, separation is not allowed, except in cases of early withdrawal from the distance of one of the team members.
Classes:

  1. Bicycle
  2. Bicycle family
  3. Pedestrian
  4. Walking family

In family classes, only your points will be counted, without taking into account the time (the main thing is to meet the control time), the points will be the same. Walk or compete - the choice is yours.
We do not set strict criteria by which a team can be classified as a “family” or “regular” class - decide for yourself which one you like and in which class will be worthy rivals.

Equipment:

  1. Pen or pencil
  2. Charged mobile phone for communication with the organizers
  3. Compass (optional)

The use of GPS navigators is not prohibited, but also discouraged. We tried to make sure that they did not help you 😉

The diameter of the competition area is about 4 kilometers, no more than 3 kilometers "in a straight line" from the base camp.

Control points (CP) in the forest will most often be marked with a marking tape, in settlements and in places with recognizable landmarks, CP will not be indicated, and the legend will give a description of the subject on which you need to look for the answer. On some checkpoints, the answer will be existing inscriptions, some peculiarities (for example, the number of posts in a fence or windows in a building), and on some - a code written on an attached plate. The answer must be recorded in the route sheet issued at the start and handed over at the finish.

Points can be found in any order and in any number.

For each correctly found point, the team receives the number of points corresponding to the first digit of the point number (for point 51 - five points, for point 36 - three, and so on). At some points it will be possible to earn additional points, which will be marked on the map and announced at the start briefing. The winner is determined by the highest amount of points scored, and if they are equal (except for family classes) - by the less time spent on the distance. For exceeding the control time, the team receives a penalty of +10 minutes for each “extra” minute, and if the delay is more than 10 minutes, a technical defeat with 0 points is counted.

Checkout time, by class:

  1. Cycling - 3 hours
  2. Bicycle family - 4 hours
  3. Pedestrian - 4 hours
  4. Family walking - 4 hours

The first three places in each class will receive prizes and gifts from the organizers and sponsors of the festival.

Come and come, we will be glad to everyone!

For help in preparation, we thank the authors of the city guide game "Otryv" (http://otryv.by), the principles and ideas of which we were inspired 🙂
